Eagle Scout
Elijah “Eli” Wittum, 14, of Cleveland, the son of Jimmy Wittum and Cyndi Allison Wittum, will receive his Eagle Scout award today at Cleveland United Methodist Church. The Rev. Shirley Jones is the pastor of Cleveland Methodist Church.
The presentation will be made by Jim Redmond, Scoutmaster of Troop 320, sponsored by Woodleaf Civitans. Rick Barrier and Wittum’s father, Jim Wittum, are assistant scoutmasters of Troop 320. His late grandfather, Bob Allison, was Scoutmaster of Troop 309 for many years.
Wittum, who has earned 30 merit badges, hopes to earn all of the merit badges. He is senior patrol leader and historian for Troop 320 and a member of Order of the Arrow.
Actively involved in service to the community, Wittum is a recipient of the United Way’s Service Above Self award. He volunteers with Rowan Helping Ministries, Rowan Animal Shelter, the American Red Cross, and at Dan Nicholas Park, where he worked with summer animal tours for his Eagle project.
Wittum is an eighth grader at West Rowan Middle School and a member of the National Junior Honor Society.
He met the requirements for the Eagle rank when he was 13.
Cub Scout Pack 443
The following advancements were announced at the last meeting of Cub Scout Pack 443, sponsored by St. John’s Lutheran Church:
Bear — Marshall Brady, Ike Emerson, Rhys Little, Andrew Newman, Isaiah Null, Harrison Smith, Jordan Smith, and Alden Wright, chess belt loop.
Webelos — Citizen Activity Badge: Dylan Auten, Lake Billings, Chris Distin, Zane Grey, Matthew Hefner, Alex Heston, Stefan Knorr, Riley Myers, Michael Ogden, Jacob Scheer, Julian Seals, Gabe Steinman, and Jay Wood, citizen activity badge.
Webelos II — Nathaniel Green, Ian Lins, Taylor Rodenhuis, Philip Simons, Tellor Thorne, and Zachary Tucker, scientist activity badge; Mason Doby and Tom Murph, scientist activity badge and Bobcat rank.
The scouts shopped for boys whose names were received from St. John’s Angel Tree. Each den was sponsored several boys. As a Christmas treat, each cub scout received a Pinewood Derby car to design for the annual Pinewood Derby race in January.
Pack 443 meets every Monday night at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall below the sanctuary at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Innes Street in downtown Salisbury.
