Police have arrested a third suspect believed involved in a November armed robbery in Salisbury.

Grover Franklin Jones Jr., 18, of 1012-A N. Salisbury Ave., Spencer, was charged over the weekend with robbery with firearms or other weapons.

The arrest stems from a Nov. 19 case where a man reported being robbed at gunpoint on West Cemetery Street. The victim was walking to the Stop & amp; Go convenience store at 530 W. Cemetery St. when a large silver car with four men stopped.

The men were all shielding their faces with bandannas. Two approached him while two others remained in the car.

One of the men displayed a gray steel revolver and another threatened the victim. They stole $157 in cash and a Motorola cell phone.

Nadiyda Aiesha Thelwell, 17, of 925 Pine St., and Tommie Raynard Ferrens, 17, of 1112 N. Salisbury Ave., Spencer, have already been charged in that robbery.

Thelwell and Ferrens were arrested the night of the robbery after a Spencer police officer spotted a car that fit the suspects’ vehicle on South Salisbury Avenue.

He followed the car to Ninth Street and South Carolina Avenue before it stopped in the parking lot of the Windsock Apartments.

The two men in the back seat jumped and ran while the Spencer officer arrested at gunpoint Thelwell and Ferrens, who were in the front seat.

Jones is no stranger to law enforcement officers. He and Ferrens have already been charged with assault to kill inflicting serious injury in a shooting that occurred in Spencer on May 15.

That shooting involved Joshua Paul Tingler of Salisbury, who police said was shot after giving Ferrens and Jones a ride. Tingler went to North Rowan Elementary School after a bullet grazed his temple and the school went into lockdown.

Jones and Ferrens have also been named as suspects in a May 14 shooting where Mike Deal was attacked on the front porch of his Carolina Avenue house after returning from walking his dog.

Jones remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond. Ferrens is also still in the Detention Center under a $75,000 bond.

An officer with the Detention Center said Thelwell has been released on bond. A search for the fourth suspect in the Nov. 21 robbery continues.
