LC women win on road

Livingstone’s women’s basketball team won 75-61 at Chowan on Monday.
Tiffany Evans scored 17 points to lead the Blue Bears. Cierra York scored 16, and Diamond Tolliver had 15. Sophia Lepzem had 11 rebounds. York had five assists.
Livingstone was outrebounded but shot 38.9 percent, while the Hawks were shooting 31.7 percent.
The Blue Bears (9-7, 4-2) got a boost from eight 3-pointers. York and Tolliver made three apiece.
Janelle Murphy and Rachel Gostomski scored nine points each for the Hawks.

Lenoir-Rhyne’s Jazmine Charles, who starred at Central Davidson, is the SAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The junior guard averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in wins over Wingate and Tusculum. Charles leads the league in scoring (18.2 ppg).
Martavio Rankin scored 20 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter and overtime and led Knox to a 59-52 win against West Rowan Middle on Monday.
Terrell Baker scored 10 points for the Trojans (11-2).
Caleb Mauldin led the Bulldogs (9-4) with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Owen White scored 10 points.
West finishes the regular season on Wednesday at China Grove.
• Olivia Gabriel scored 18 points to lead Southeast’s girls to a 31-29 win against North Rowan Middle. Shaleah Jolly added five points for the Patriots.
•Sacred Heart’s jayvees won 34-13 against Statesville Christian.
Blaine Shellhorn led the Dolphins with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Julian Malnar had 12 pts and three steals. Zach Proctor, Brodi Dillon and Jimmy Sentilles led the defense.
The JV Dolphins play today at Salisbury Academy.
• Sacred Heart’s varsity boys won 41-31 against Statesville Christian.
Michael Childress led with Dolphins (10-2) with 10 points and five assists. Will Taylor scored seven points. Eric Turnbull and Bill Fisher scored six points each. Keegan Dillon added five points.
The varsity Dolphins are home today against Summit School and play at Salisbury Academy on Wednesday.
• Sacred Heart’s varsity girls defeated Statesville Christian 28-16.
Julia Honeycutt led the Dolphins with 17 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and three assists. Mary Sobataka had a strong defensive game.

Rowan Little League baseball and softball registrations are from 8-4 on Feb. 1 and from 8-4 on Feb. 8 at Godley’s Garden Center on Statesville Boulevard.

Baseball costs $80 for Coach Pitch and T-ball (ages 3-8). Cost is $100 for ages 9-10, 11-12 and 13-16. League age is as of April 30, 2014.
