Guilford’s Nathan Fulbright (East Rowan) returned to the team after losing his father, Glenn, after a long fight with cancer.
Fulbright had six hits in three games. The sophomore catcher is batting .370.
Guilford’s Avery Rogers (East) pitched a scoreless inning against Methodist.
• Jon Crucitti (West Rowan) is batting .404 for Army after getting six hits in a weekend series with Wagner.
• Liberty’s Carson Herndon (Davie) pitched six strong innings against Kent State Sunday to win his second game of the season. Herndon allowed six hits and one run in a 9-1 victory. He struck out eight and walked none.
• Brett Huffman (West Rowan) had four hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs as the 20th-ranked Braves rolled 14-3 against Young Harris on Saturday. The senior first baseman is batting .330 with five homers and 21 RBIs.
• Matt Laurens (North Rowan) pitched a complete game for North Greenville in a 2-0 loss to Barton on Sunday. Laurens (1-4) allowed eight hits, struck out seven and walked one.
• Winston-Salem State’s Jacob Barber (Davie) had five hits and four RBIs in a four-game sweep of Chowan.
• Pfeiffer’s Dylan Goodman (South Rowan) had two hits Sunday in a 7-6 win against King.
• East Carolina freshman Eric Tyler (South) had his first two college hits in the weekend series with Marshall. The Thundering Herd took two out of three.
• Preston Troutman (East) had two hits and scored twice as Appalachian State beat UNC Asheville 7-4 on Sunday to finish a series sweep.
• UNC Wilmington’s Andy Austin (East) got his first hit of the season in a 5-3 win against Baylor.
Temple closed the season with a 72-44 loss to South Florida in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. Shi-Heria Shipp (Salisbury) scored four points. Shipp had nine points against Houston in Temple’s final regular-season game.
Shipp averaged 8.8 points and 6.7 rebounds in her last college season.
• Charlotte’s Ayanna Holmes (Salisbury) had six points, five assists and four rebounds as Charlotte closed the regular season with a 64-60 win at UAB. Olivia Rankin (Salisbury) had two rebounds and blocked a shot.
Sixth-seeded Charlotte plays tonight in the Conference USA tourney in El Paso.
• Gardner-Webb lost to Campbell 63-46 in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament.Jessica Heilig (Salisbury) had eight points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs. Doreen Richardson (Salisbury) had seven points, three rebounds and three steals. Gardner-Webb finished 16-14.
Livingstone’s Justin Avery (West) made all-region after finishing fourth in the 200 meters in the CIAA Championships and turning in the 12th-best time in Division II.
Avery placed first in the 200 in the recent George Mason Last Chance Meet in 21.99 seconds.
Avery, who has a personal best of 21.69, has qualified to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14.
• Livingstone’s Garland Archie (North) had some good performances during the indoor season in the shot put. He was 12th in the Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston-Salem.
• Lees-McRae senior pole vaulter Evan Webb (East) made the all-region team when he cleared 15 feet, 9 inches at the George Mason Last Chance Meet.
• Wingate’s Omar Ray (A.L. Brown) made all-region as part of the school’s 4×400 relay team that turned in the region’s fastest time.
• Ross Oden (East) was named to the Atlantic Sun academic all-conference team. Oden won the Mountaineer Open and was 11th in the Atlantic Sun Championships.
• UNC Pembroke’s Haylee Gardner (East) was 12th in the weight throw in the Gamecock Indoor Invitational.
