The W.G. Bill (Hefner) VA Medical Center is presenting a World Kidney Day awareness event Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Social Room of Building 6. The event is open to veterans and employees of the facility. It is being presented by the nephrology section of the Salisbury VAMC.
The theme of the event is “Chronic Kidney Disease and Aging.” Highlights of the event include speakers on kidney health, as well as friendly cooking tips, educational hand-outs and a health fair offering free blood pressure, weight and body mass index measuring.
The aim of World Kidney Day is to raise awareness of the importance of the kidneys to overall health. If detected early, chronic kidney diseases can be treated — reducing other complications and dramatically reducing the growing burden of deaths and disability from chronic renal and cardiovascular disease worldwide.
