Sandy Yon is looking to take her experience working in a fast-paced hospital environment and put it to use serving the citizens of Rowan County in public office.
Yon, 62, works as a patient services coordinator with Novant Health Faith Internal Medicine and is making her first run for clerk of superior court.
“The clerk’s office is best known to the general public for keeping court records as well as receiving payment of court fees and fines,” Yon said. “I want to help ensure that the public’s trust in our local court system remains above reproach by holding each member of our staff accountable to the highest standards of personal and professional conduct.”
A Salisbury native and graduate of Salisbury High School, Yon attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and worked at Rowan Hospital, Faith Diagnostic and Novant Health.
“Under North Carolina’s court system, the clerk’s office oversees legal cases involving everything from wills and guardianships to land sales and foreclosures,” Yon said. “I will do everything in my power to ensure that all cases are handled professionally without any undue bias apart from the law.”
Yon is a member of First United Methodist Church and the past president of Crescent Republican Women for more than four years.
Yon said she knows the clerk’s office handles considerable amounts of money each day from fees to fines, and she pledges to conduct the affairs of the clerk’s office so as to maintain trust.
“While much of my professional experience has been in the medical field, I have a great amount of knowledge in similar processes and functions such as recordkeeping, monetary payments and various laws and regulations pertaining to that field,” Yon said. “I have managed other offices in the past, and therefore have the necessary people skills and personal integrity to provide the proper leadership to such an important office.”
Sandy and her husband, Tony, have two grown children.
