Staff ReportThe South Rowan High School Future Farmers of America Cub recently hosted its first Service South Rowan event.
About 75 volunteers participated, representing the Future Farmers, the Student Council Association and Corriher-Lipe Middle School’s Junior Beta Club.
Volunteers arrived at South Rowan at 8 a.m. and divided into groups. Students completed eight different projects during the half-day event.
The projects included yard work in the Landis, China Grove and Enochville communities.
Students pruned shrubs, cut tree limbs, painted a fence and garage, raked leaves, planted flowers, put out mulch, picked up sticks, mowed lawns and pulled weeds.
All participants got free T-shirts and a free hot dog lunch.
Carrie Hoffner, project coordinator, said the event went smoothly, and she looks forward to having the service day again next year.
