Some Koontz Elementary School students could be headed back to Granite Quarry in August.
Rowan-Salisbury school board members voted in May to have Superintendent Dr. Judy Grissom and staff members develop a plan to ease overcrowding at the 1-year-old school.
Koontz is at capacity currently, while Granite Quarry has space for 153 additional students, according to agenda information.
School board members will vote on a proposed plan at Monday’s school board meeting.
The plan includes sending 73 students from Koontz back to Granite Quarry.
If approved, the plan would put Granite Quarry only 80 students under capacity and reduce Koontz numbers to 92 students under capacity.
New Assistant Superintendent of Operations Gene Miller will present the proposal to the board.
Other items on Monday’s meeting agenda include:
– Tim Smith, director of student services, presenting proposed revisions to the student transfer policy;
– Delores Morris, assistant superintendent for human resources, presenting board policy on absences from school for board review. There is a proposed new item in the policy for military leave.
The school board meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Long Street administrative school offices in East Spencer.
