Staff report
The county’s Environmental Management Department is up and running at its new location on Old Concord Road.
The restructured department, which has been housed on the second floor of the County Building at 402 N. Main St. is now at the Rowan County Agricultural Center at 2727 Old Concord Road.
County staff moved furniture and equipment into the offices Friday afternoon with staff starting work Tuesday at the new location.
And apparently the new location is where the department first operated.
Kathryn Jolly heads the department, which includes Paul Canup, who is the environmental manager of the landfill, and Greg Greene, specialist for the processing center and recycling. Greene previously handled erosion control but those duties are now handled through the Planning and Development Department.
Lori Swaim, recycling coordinator, is also part of the Environmental Management Department, but her office is located at the Long Street processing center.
County Manager Bill Cowan decided several months ago to revamp the Environmental Services Department, taking out inspections and planning to create a separate department.
Moving the environmental staff to a new location is expected to provide more space for planning and inspections.
The move to Old Concord Road won’t impact the phone number. The Environmental Management number is 704-216-8593.
