LANDIS — The new south Rowan County Sheriff’s Office won’t open to the public until March 1 at the earliest.

A story published in the Post last week listed today as the date for that opening.

Sheriff George Wilhelm said the county has not completed work on the building and it could be April or May before the office is opened to the public.

“We’ve been trying to get it open since August,” Wilhelm said Wednesday. “There have been delays in getting the building ready. We can’t open it until we have a generator.”

County officials said last week that a generator used for emergency power at the North Kannapolis office isn’t large enough for the Landis office. North Kannapolis had gas heat, while the new office has electric heat.

The building, at 103 N. Central Ave., which formerly housed the south library branch, is already in use by the Sheriff’s Office, but is not open to the public. It’s primarily being used for training and personnel.
