Lorillard scholarships
Twins Jessica L. and Samantha G. Smith, 2007 graduates of North Rowan High School, have been awarded 2007 Lorillard Children’s Scholarships by Lorillard Tobacco Co. of Greensboro.
The scholarships are awarded to children of Lorillard employees. The twins’ father is a supervisor in the maintenance department.
Recipients are chosen by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. on the basis of test scores, academic records, leadership and extracurricular activities.
The twins, who had identical grade-point averages and SAT scores, were named class co-valedictorians at North Rowan. They both received awards for Outstanding Senior, AP Scholar and Scholar Athlete and were members of the National Honor Society, Students Against Destructive Decisions and the varsity volleyball, softball and swim teams.
Jessica plans to major in chemistry secondary education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Samantha plans to major in chemistry at N.C. State University in Raleigh.
They are the daughters of Ruby and Avery Cutshaw and Gayle and David Smith.
