LANDIS — The board of aldermen approved preliminary plans for a proposed subdivision being developed by Castle & Cooke at the Kannapolis Country Club.

The board met Wednesday during a special meeting where they discussed certain allowances for street rights-of-way and street widths for the subdivision.

Castle & Cooke is asking for exceptions to the plan:

* Have 40 feet right-of-way instead of 50 feet.

* Have 21 feet instead of 28 feet for all street widths.

* Have five feet sidewalks on one side of the street only.

* Have lot setbacks on the front of the property reduced from 40 feet to 25 feet.

These exceptions were approved and the developers can move forward with their plans. When construction begins the developers will have to submit construction plans.

“The jurisdiction of the subdivision falls in Rowan County, Kannapolis and Landis, so the board thought they should all work closely together,” said Town Administrator Reed Linn.

Kannapolis already approved the variances at its meeting.

The redesign of the club’s golf course continues, Linn said, with realigning and adjusting the holes.

The aldermen also discussed policies regarding people renting the War Memorial Building.

Linn said someone rented the building for a party this past Friday and the police were called out to break up the party, which ended at 3:30 a.m.

The board arranged for the Police Department to check on the building to dissuade similar situations from occurring in the future.
