Brown wins awards
Kerri Rebekah Brown, who graduated with highest honors May 18 from Lancaster High School in Lancaster, S.C., has received renewable scholarships totaling more than $28,000 annually for her first four years of college study.
Brown plans to enter the pre-pharmacy program in the Honors College at the University of South Carolina in Columbia this fall. Her scholarships include the Carolina Scholar, Lieber Scholar, Robert C. Byrd Honors and the Palmetto Fellows award.
The Carolina Scholar award is the highest award given to in-state students and includes receipt of a laptop computer, summer study abroad experience and research opportunities.
The university awards the Lieber Scholarship to National Merit Finalists. The Robert C. Byrd Honors scholarship is a federally funded award that recognizes both student excellence and achievement in high school and the promise of continued academic excellence at a post-secondary institution. The Palmetto Fellows scholarship is given by the state of South Carolina to recognize the most academically talented high school seniors.
Brown is the daughter of Chris and Marcy Brown of Lancaster, granddaughter of Jim and Jean Lefler and great-granddaughter of Pauline Lefler, all of Rockwell.
