Staff report
Salisbury Police are looking for a man who robbed F&M Bank on Avalon Drive Monday morning while wearing a nurse’s uniform.
At 10:12 a.m. police responded to 102 S. Avalon Drive where a black man wearing pink pants, white tennis shoes, a flowered top and a shoulder-length wig handed the teller a note demanding money.
The man left without incident, carrying an undisclosed amount of cash. A K-9 unit was called to the scene and officers spoke with nearby store owners and other possible witnesses. A search continues.
As detectives busied themselves inside the bank, customers were turned away.
Police Chief Mark Wilhelm said the suspect was last seen on foot, but investigators were not sure if he escaped in a vehicle.
Similar reports of a man wearing a wig and nurse’s uniform were reported in Concord, Belmont and Burlington, Wilhelm said.
He said the Avalon Drive bank branch has been robbed on other occasions.
This is not the first bank robbery involving someone wearing a nurse-type uniform. In March, a woman attempted to rob First Bank off Jake Alexander Boulevard. The thief was wearing scrubs.
