KANNAPOLIS — Police are investigating a robbery that happened in broad daylight at a convenience store on Wright Avenue.

A man walked up to the counter at the EZ Stop at 701 Wright Ave. just after 2 p.m. Thursday, brandished a small-caliber silver handgun and demanded money, Kannapolis Police Lt. Pat Patty said.

An employee gave the man around $80 from the register, then the suspect ran from the store. Police tried unsuccessfully to track him with a police dog.

The employee described the suspect as a black man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with a red stripe across the chest, blue jeans and high-top basketball shoes.
