SPENCER ó Jerome Alexander of Concord, who recently earned an associate degree in electronics engineering technology at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, has helped make a visit to the North Carolina Transportation Museum more enjoyable.
Alexander, who graduated from RCCC June 2, has donated his senior electronic engineering project to the museum. Alexander built a timer mechanism and has given it to the Spencer museum for a model train display. Thanks to his timer and a visitor’s quarter, an HO gauge model train will move along a track and specially designed miniature display for two to four minutes.
“Jerome’s study and use of timers in industrial applications and his sense of community service have given life to a once-static museum piece,” said Michele Chance, head of RCCC’s electronics engineering technology program. “Jerome is another example of RCCC students making a positive impact in our community.”
Alexander is a former RCCC and North Carolina co-operative education student of the year.
RCCC’s electronics engineering technology program prepares students to become technicians who design, build, install, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify developmental and production electronic components, equipment and systems. These can range from industrial/computer controls and manufacturing systems to communication and power electronic systems.
A broad-based core of courses, including basic electricity, solid-state fundamentals, digital concepts and microprocessors, ensures students will develop the skills necessary to perform entry-level tasks. Emphasis is placed on developing the ability to analyze and troubleshoot electronic systems.
