CHINA GROVE –The China Grove Roller Mill and Museum will be open to the public Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

There is no charge for admission, but donations are welcome.

Light refreshment will be served.

Jeff Whittington, a multi-talented musician and entertainer who has been performing in the Charlotte area since 1970, will provide music.

Whittington plays banjo, acoustic guitar, hammered dulcimer, harmonica, pedeal steel guitar, mountain dulcimer, autoharp and dobro.

The mill, located at 308 N. Main St., is owned and operated by the Historical Society of South Rowan. Organized in 1883 by J.C. Corriher, the mill was originally located in the area of what is now Hanna Park. The current building was built in 1903.

The mill was fully operational until it closed in 1995. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since December 1983.

Donated artifacts and memorabilia dating back to the 1800s are displayed throughout the original mill and parlor area. The society recently finished renovations to the mill, including the addition of a meeting room, bathrooms, kitchen, office and parlor area.

China Grove prints, notecards and T-shirts are available for sale at the office.
