CHINA GROVE Fire burned a China Grove mobile home to the ground late Sunday, leaving its four occupants homeless.
The Bostian Heights Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at 655 Red Leaf Lane around 11:30 p.m.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, We had fire everywhere, said Mike Zimmerman, chief of the Bostian Heights Fire Department. Flames were coming out of the windows and roof, he said.
Dan Freeze owns the mobile home but was renting it to Lynn Fowler and her two children. Nina Taylor was also staying at the home.
Zimmerman said Fowler and Taylor were already in bed when the fire started. They got out of the house and went to a friends house. The friend called 911.
Fowlers children werent home at the time.
Zimmerman said the fire marshalls office is listing the cause as accidental, but firemen dont know exactly how it started.
The fire started in the kitchen/den area but extensive damage makes it hard to pinpoint what started it, Zimmerman said.
Taylor had difficulty breathing but the Rowan Rescue Squad treated her on the scene. No one went to the hospital, Zimmerman said.
China Grove, Landis and Mount Mitchell Fire Departments also responded.
