The city of Kannapolis reported Monday an overflow at a sewer manhole that flowed into Bakers Creek.
The overflow was caused by cinder blocks, bricks, sticks, pieces of lumber and other debris placed in the sewer manhole and pipe by unknown vandals.
City official estimated the spill amount at about 1,000 gallons. All repairs have been completed, and no evidence of significant environmental damage has been identified, according to a city press release.
Inspection and testing is continuing until a finding of no significant impact to surface water is confirmed.
