14-year-old dies in stabbing

A Salisbury boy died after being stabbed Monday night at his girlfriend’s house on Newsome Road.
Brooklyn Jones, 14, of 1232 N. Church St., was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte where he was pronounced dead. Police reported his death about 12:25 a.m. today.
Salisbury Police Chief Mark Wilhelm said Jones was stabbed multiple times in his upper chest and back.
He said the suspect, the girlfriend’s 15-year-old brother, will be charged with murder. Wilhelm said the 15-year-old will be charged as a juvenile and it will be up to the district attorney to decide if he is tried as an adult once he gets to juvenile court.
The stabbing occurred on the front porch of the house at 918 Newsome Road. Police immediately started a search for the girlfriend’s brother.
Accompanied by his mother, the suspect turned himself in at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office just before 11:30 p.m. while Salisbury officers and their canines were still searching for him in the eastern part of the city.
The search covered a general area including Lafayette, Council and Liberty streets up to Bringle Ferry Road.
Wilhelm said the weapon used to stab Jones had not yet been recovered.
Shortly after midnight, police continued their interviews of the 15-year-old. Wilhelm said it is believed that the suspect lived at 918 Newsome Road.
Police received word from dispatchers at 9:08 p.m. Monday that a stabbing had occurred at the Newsome Road residence, and officers discovered the 14-year-old at the house.
The boy received CPR at the Newsome Road location and en route to the hospital, as emergency dispatches reported the boy in cardiac arrest.
A swarm of police officers responded to the Newsome Road location near Fairfax Drive. Officers used yellow tape to mark off the front of the small, one-story house, which is next to Autumn Care of Salisbury.
