EAST SPENCER — Police here are investigating the shooting of a man in the parking lot of Lloyd’s Grocery on South Long Street Thursday evening.

The shooting was reported to the Rowan County 911 Communications Center at 7:42 p.m. The caller said a man had been shot in the leg and was being taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center in a private vehicle.

East Spencer Police Chief E.C. Williams would not release the name of the wounded man but said his injuries were not life threatening.

Williams and other East Spencer officers were interviewing witnesses Thursday night, trying to determine the identify and motive of the shooter.

“Everything is currently under aggressive investigation at this time,” Williams said.

The owner of the Lloyd’s Grocery did not want to comment on the shooting.
