‘Christmas in City’ tour had lots of help
The Salisbury-Rowan Symphony Guild is grateful to many people who made our Christmas Homes Tour a wonderland of holiday spirit. “Christmas in the City” was a success and the revenues from this tour help to maintain and produce high quality performances.
Seven families in downtown Salisbury opened their beautifully decorated homes. Over 40 volunteer musicians, including choral groups and bands, performed heartwarming holiday favorites that truly enhanced the tour experience.
Cloninger Ford/Toyota/ Scion was our presenting sponsor. Thirty-five sponsors who generously donated to the event including organizers, docents and reception hosts generously volunteered their time in various ways during the tour. Guild members, friends, and local businesses provided many donations of products and services, including the divine home-baked goodies at the hospitality center.
We would like to express appreciation to the many area ticket outlets and Pleinair Artists.
Tickets and “Save the Date” cards were generously donated by Diversified Graphics.
We also extend a special thanks to the neighbors who enjoyed the crowds and to the city of Salisbury employees who helped to make the streets shine. It is this sense of community that helps to make the tour so successful.
We are also most grateful to Katie Scarvey and Sarah Hall for exceptional publicity, and Wayne Hinshaw for photography at the Salisbury Post and to Buddy Poole from radio station WSAT Memories 1280, David Whisenant with WBTV and others who promoted this event.

Voters have spoken
Regarding the county commission’s decision on the sheriff:
I am a longtime registered Republican of this county.
The people of this county have already spoken in reference to Tony Yon. Plainly stated, he was the last-place candidate, and voters didn’t want him for sheriff.
Our party has a tarnished image already, and if he is appointed, he will further degrade our image.
We must be leaders, open and above-board, to all of the people in our county.
Mr. Yon’s actions smell to the high heavens. They reek of the smoke-filled back-room politics of the past.
We have several well-qualified people who will run for sheriff in our own party.
I only ask that the county commission doesn’t start out by picking a known loser. Why is he an officer in another county if he is so good at his job?
I personally will not support Mr. Yon in an election. I will strongly help anyone who runs against him.

Thanks, Samaritans
Just a note to thank all those good Samaritans (known and unknown) who came to my aid on Nov. 20 after I went airborne down the steps at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
The loan of coats for my head and cold feet, the gentleman who called 911, the hand-holders, just everyone ó thank you so very much. (I ended up with big, bad bruises and a dislocated shoulder.)
Incidentally, the Concert Choir Concert was beautiful!
