Loss is lightened when others help
We would like to extend our gratitude to the Cleveland Fire Department, West Rowan Fire Department, Franklin Ellis Fire Department and the American Red Cross.
Thanksgiving didn’t stop these fine men and women from leaving their families to come help mine. On Thursday, Nov. 26, my family’s house caught on fire, and these fire departments arrived to my home very quickly. They contained the fire to just one bedroom.
Although it was still bad, it could have been worse. Luckily, these brave people saved over half the house and all my son’s belongings.
Not only were the firefighters a blessing, the American Red Cross provided us with the necessary toiletries and a warm place to stay at the Travel Lodge.
Without the assistance from all these people, my family would have been lost. We will forever be thankful and grateful for everything that everyone did that day. We would also like to thank all the people that donated clothes and other things to us to help us get back on our feet. The kindness of all the people that helped us still amazes me and my family.
With the holidays approaching fast, an event like this could break a family, but with the donations and kindness from everyone, it restored our hope and lifted our spirits.

‘Nutcracker’ is new and amazing
Saturday I came home just singing and dancing after seeing the Piedmont Dance Theatre’s new production of The Nutcracker in Kannapolis. Each year it changes and amazes!
Rebecca Wiley as the grandmother this year and Sarah Ensley as Fritz enliven the party scene with their shenanigans. Rebecca Paul’s beautiful Snow Queen was paired with Daniel Wiley as an outstanding Cavalier. Daniel also wows the audience with his Russian dance in this production, and Courtney Connor as the Sugar Plum Fairy (who will be joined by Sergey Pakharev as Cavalier this weekend) enchanted everyone.
And finally, newcomer Luke Griffin as the Nutcracker with both Claras Kayla Murterer on Saturday and Emily Simpson on Sunday is bound to awe everyone with their finesse and charm as they did last weekend.
I cannot tell you how excited I am to be even involved in this production, let alone at the orchestra’s helm. If you’re looking for a great Christmas event this weekend, don’t miss this outstandingly prepared dance performance!
Whether you can come to The Nutcracker or not, have a merry Christmas, but if you really want a warm fuzzy during the season, don’t miss this production!

Angel in Salisbury
I met my Christmas angel today at the Salisbury Post Office.
I was in the Salisbury area to help an older relative. In doing so, I went to the post office to mail a letter for her and buy stamps. I was unfamiliar with the computerized stamp machine. A young lady helped me make my purchase. When I mailed my letter, I thought I dropped something, but I looked down and did not see anything. It was after hours and dark, so I hurried out to my car to head home.
I had gone through a busy intersection and possibly two blocks when someone caught up with me on foot. This same young lady had seen that I had dropped my credit card at the post office and she had run ó probably against the light ó and chased me down the street to return my card.
I was in heavy traffic and could not possibly stop and get out of the car. She handed me my card through the passenger window and I barely was able to say a small “thank you” and drive on my way.
My Christmas angel may never know this, but I wish her a huge “thank you” and a big bear hug.
