Weapons at West Middle

Brass knuckles with blades and a sharpened ruler intended as a weapon have been recovered from West Rowan Middle School.
Capt. John Sifford of the Rowan Sheriff’s Office said the weapons were found in a search of a student’s book bag after he was acting suspicious.
Among the items found was a pair of spiked brass knuckles with blades, a metal ruler with one end filed to a point and a rag wrapped around the other to serve as a handle.
In the Dec. 14 incident, three cigars were also recovered. Sifford said cigars are typically hollowed out and stuffed with marijuana.
School officials reported two students with drugs or weapons.
The students, under the age of 16, face juvenile petitions.
In a separate incident, a teacher at West Rowan High School reported a student disrupting class on Dec. 16. The student, who is under the age of 16, will face a juvenile petition.
