Jeanie Moore, vice president of corporate and continuing education at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, has been selected as one the 2009 “Women Extraordinaire” by the “Charlotte Business Leader” magazine.
The Women Extraordinaire awards honor accomplished women business leaders in the Charlotte region. Honorees are women of outstanding accomplishment, leaders, innovators, problem solvers, and mentors and inspiration to others. Moore and the other award winners were recognized at a Dec. 9 banquet in Charlotte.
Other Cabarrus-Rowan award recipients included Jo Anne Byerly, superintendent of Kannapolis City Schools, and Diane Honeycutt of Team Honeycutt/Allen Tate Realtors.
Moore oversees and directs the corporate and continuing education programs of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC), ranging from basic skills and literacy classes to highly technical programs in focused industry training and new and expanding industry development. She played a lead role in the creation of the college’s R3 Career Center in Kannapolis and has been a member of RCCC’s senior leadership team since 1996.
Moore is a past president of the Salisbury-Rowan Economic Development Commission and a member since 2003. She serves as a member of the Centralina Council of Governments Economic Development Board, the N.C. BioNetwork BioBusiness Advisory Committee, and the Advisory Committee for Biotechnology in the Charlotte Region ń North Carolina Biotechnology Center. She also is active with multiple chamber of commerce committees in Rowan and Cabarrus counties.
A native of Rowan County, Moore earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from Greensboro College, a master’s degree in adult education from Appalachian State University and completed additional studies at UNC-Greensboro. She has worked at RCCC since 1977.
Moore is a former member of the N.C. Community College Economic Workforce Development Leadership Committee and was president of the N.C. Community College Adult Educators’ Association from 1999 to 2000. She served as co-director of the N.C. Community College Leadership Program from 1990-1992.
CM Black in on new Wingate project
Concord-based CM Black Construction Co. Inc. has begun construction on a new 69,000-square-foot College of Health Sciences building at Wingate University.
The three-story building will also house the School of Pharmacy and Physician Assistant Studies Program.
The building is scheduled to be completed by May 2011, and the architect for the project is Yates-Chreitzberg-Hughes Architects from Concord. The College of Health Sciences Building is expected to earn LEED Certification, continuing CM Black’s push toward environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings.
Other facilities built by CM Black at Wingate include the Cannon Hall Annex, Hayes Classroom, the George A. Batte Fine Arts Building, and the Watson & Beam Hall Student Housing Facilities.

Megan Hatley has been named Caregiver of the Month for December at Home Instead Senior Care.
She has been with Home Instead since 2008.
