The J. C. Price Post 107 of Salisbury will host a new recruit orientation for young men and women who think they have what it takes to become a Cadet.
Veterans at J.C. Price Post are starting a new Cadet Corp and are looking for new recruits to join.
According to SSG. Hercules Shannon, retired Army veteran, the program will teach principles that can assist in life skills and will help them prepare for their future. It will also help lead to an increased active participation in the community.
Types of training and classes will be posted at the first orientation meeting, detailing what the future Cadets will be doing and how their training can help with their leadership skills obtained with both learning and physical training.
This program is not geared as a juvenile delinquency program but rather a program to assist youth. Orientation will be held on Jan. 9, at 11 a.m., 1435 Old Wilksboro Road, Salisbury. Youth from all areas can apply. Applicants must be a non-smoker, drug-free, no criminal record, physically fit, and take no medications.
Training will be held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and children should arrive no later than 7:50 a.m. First formation will be at 8 a.m. and last formation will end at 4 p.m.
This program is managed by volunteer veterans dedicated to instilling the core values of honor, courage, and commitment. Cadets will wear modified uniforms of the Army. They will be participating in a multitude of advanced training programs: teamwork, ground survival, search and rescue, etc.
For the past nine years, Shannon has trained kids at GTCC in Greensboro. He also trains kids presently at Ft. Bragg one weekend a month from Friday 6 p.m. to Sunday 5 p.m.
According to Shannon, he hopes to start a Cadet Corp here in Rowan County and the surrounding areas because he feels there is a great need for this Cadet Corp.
