KANNAPOLIS ó The R3 Center is offering numerous career development workshops and resum clinics in January for adults in Cabarrus and Rowan counties. All of the programs are provided free-of-charge.
Located at 164 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., in Kannapolis, the R3 Center is a career development center established by Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) to assist workers who are unemployed or under-employed.
The center’s mission is built on three Rs ń a refocus on individual skills and interests, retraining and further education, and partnering with other workforce development agencies to secure career-oriented re-employment.
The center’s January schedule of workshops includes the following sessions. Due to the popularity of its free workshops, the R3 Center strongly encourages clients to call in advance at 704-216-7201, and reserve a seat. Call also for specific workshop locations.
– New Client Launch ń 2 and 6 p.m. on Jan. 4; 9 a.m. on Jan.7, 11, 14, 19, 25 and 28; and 6 p.m. on Jan. 11, 19, and 25. New Client Launch is an orientation program for persons who have never attended an R3 Center workshop or taken advantage of its other services.

The R3 Center also will offer three resume clinics to help job searchers improve their current resume or create a new one from start to finish. Please call to reserve a seat. The resume clinics are scheduled for:

– 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 12; and
– 6 p.m. on Jan. 27.
The R3 Center helps adult workers assess their skills, aptitudes, training and academic credentials, and future career interests to develop an action plan for career growth. All R3 Center services are provided free-of-charge. The center’s normal office hours are: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. The center will be closed Dec. 21 through Jan. 3 for the holiday season.
The R3 Center partners with other workforce development agencies, including the Centralina Workforce Development Board, JobLink Career Centers of Cabarrus and Rowan counties, N.C. Employment Security Commission and other area community colleges.

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will offer a residential contractor license examination review course beginning in January.
The 25-hour course will prepare students to take the North Carolina residential contractor licensing examination. The class will meet 5:45 to 8:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 12 through Feb. 11, at RCCC’s North Campus, in Salisbury. The course fee is $120, plus three textbooks.

RCCC’s real estate courses start in January
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) will offer pre- and post-licensing real estate courses beginning in January.
The “Pre-licensing” class will meet 9 a.m. to noon on Monday and Wednesdays, Jan. 25 to April 26, at RCCC’s South Campus, in Concord. Tuition is $175, plus a $50 textbook. The course is required to become a provisional broker and covers basic real estate principles, real estate law, contracts, brokerage practices, financing, closings, property valuation, fair housing, property management, taxation, and real estate mathematics. Those who pass the course are eligible to take the North Carolina Real Estate Commission examination to become a licensed broker.
The post-licensing “Contacts and Closing” class will meet 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 19 to March 23, at RCCC’s North Campus, in Salisbury. Tuition is $120. The course will provide post-licensing instruction in broker responsibilities related to sales, contracts and contract procedures, the real estate settlement procedures act, document preparations, and closings.
The post-licensing “Broker Relationships” class will meet 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, Jan. 21 to March 25, at RCCC’s North Campus. Tuition is $120. The course will cover broker relationships working with buyers and seller. Topics will include agency duties, contracts and disclosure, and the practical aspects of working with clients.

Pharmacy tech course for spring starts Jan. 28
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College (RCCC) will offer the pharmacy technician training program starting Jan. 28 and running through May 20.
The class will meet 6 to 9 p.m., Thursdays, on RCCC’s South Campus, in Concord. Tuition is $175, plus textbooks and calculator costing approximately $150. The course will be offered in a hybrid format, which combines in-class and on-line instruction.
Students must have a high school diploma or GED and complete a career readiness certification course at RCCC before entering the pharmacy technician program. Prospective students are encouraged to register for the program and complete the career readiness course no later than Jan. 8.The program trains students to work as assistants to a licensed pharmacist in both retail and hospital settings. Students learn pharmaceutical and medical terminology; abbreviations and symbols used in prescribing, dispensing and charting of medications; a working knowledge of the drug trade; generic drug names; as well as prescription strengths, dosages, dosage forms and methods of administration.
The program prepares students to take the National Pharmacy Technician Certification examination, given by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
