The Granite Quarry high school class of 1944 met for lunch on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the home of Frances Trexler, to celebrate their 68th year reunion.
After lunch, the class members had a business meeting conducted by C.C. Caskey, president, and decided to continue having a reunion as long as enough members were able to get together.
Six of the fourteen living members attended. In attendance, besides Caskey and Trexler, were Ruth Shuping, Effie Velines, Madge and Gib Russell, Warren and Evelyn Morgan, all from the Salisbury area. The class lost two members last year. Frances gave the group an update on members who were unable to attend. She did a short program on being thankful, reminding her classmates that even though our health might not be the best, we still have a lot to be thankful for. We have so much more to make life comfortable now, in comparison to what we had in our early years growing up during the depression, and the WWII years of shortages.
The members had fun talking about the ways things used to be, but we never realized we were poor. The group took a tour of the house to look a the Christmas decorations. Door prizes were given to everyone and Frances gave a gift to each person attending.
Iota Psi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi was called to order by president Gail Young Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Rockwell community meeting when members of all Salisbury chapters attended a Preferential Tea hosted by the Lamda Master chapter at the James home.
New members were presented to the other chapters at the meeting. Members also brought legacy members, who are daughters, granddaughters, nieces or young ladies near and dear to chapter members.
Members collected for the homeless shelter. The chapter will also be collecting envelopes and cards and cards to be given to Linda Beck for use in a card ministry to NC National Guardsmen deployed overseas.
The annual Thanksgiving dinner was a covered-dish. The chapter is also collecting donated toys to fill 125 Christmas stocking to be delivered to the local Salvation Army for distribution to local children. Plans are being made to go to the Meadows in Rockwell in December for Christmas caroling and distribution of gift bags made up by chapter members.
Vicki Lippard, assisted by her daughter-in-law Kelly, is hosting the annual Christmas dinner at her home Dec. 18.
The city council meeting for all chapters will be held in January to plan a Valentine brunch for all the chapter queens. Iota Psi’s queen for 2012-2013 is Marlene Turner.
