The Boyden High School class of 1959 is a close-knit group. In fact, they have a “1^st Friday Lunch Bunch” meeting each month, and although it’s local, classmates sometimes come from as far away as Florida, Georgia, even Alaska.

They’re a generous group, too. Beginning in November, the lunch bunch began collecting for charitable organizations.

“To date, we have collected $790 from classmates far and near,” Edith Julian, a member of the Boyden High School class of 1959, said in a note.

They’ve written checks and given cash to the Salvation Army, Rowan Helping Ministries and the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. And, of course, they didn’t forget the Christmas Happiness Fund.

“In honor of all classmates, in memory of those who have left us, and in gratitude to the Salisbury Post for faithfully supporting this program,” Julian wrote in her note, “we present this check for $305 to Christmas Happiness with heartfelt love and peace to all.”

Donations to the Christmas Happiness Fund come from people in the community who earmark their gift in memory or honor of someone. Donations are brought to the Salisbury Post during business hours. The money is then given to the Salvation Army of Rowan County to distribute to eligible families.
