Throughout the year the men of VFW Post 3006 give financial contributions to a couple of organizations, mostly veterans organizations and those that benefit the community.
This year the group gave to the Christmas Happiness Fund.
“We didn’t give a huge amount, but we like to give something,” said Philip Birchall, president of the VFW Post.
Members of the Post, located on Brenner Avenue, the one with the helicopter in front, Birchall said, gave not only in honor of veterans but also responders who serve in uniform — police, EMS, medical responders.
He said the men hope “the contribution helps someone, as many as people as possible this year.”
Donations to the Christmas Happiness Fund come from people in the community who earmark their gift in memory or honor of someone. Donations are brought to the Salisbury Post during business hours. The money is then given to the Salvation Army of Rowan County to distribute to eligible families.
