Here are the elders and deacons, circa 1891, of Salisbury’s First Presbyterian Church along with Dr. Jethro Rumple, pastor of the church from 1860-1904. Rumple, who also penned a well-known history of Rowan County, is seated at the far left. This photograph comes from ‘Salisbury Renaissance,’ a collection of historical photographs of Salisbury from 1880 to 1960. The 1981 book was compiled by Historic Salisbury Foundation and the Rowan Art Guild Gallery.
