Business Roundup: North Carolina continues to be top destination for movers

North Carolina was one of the top destinations for people who moved in 2014, according to a study by United Van Lines.
North Carolina ranked third on the list, behind Oregon and South Carolina. For North Carolina, 61 percent of its moves were inbound. The state was also third on the list for 2013.
Last year saw a continuation of the trend of people moving to the West and South.
“With economic stability growing nationally, the current migration patterns reflect longer-term trends of movement to the southern and western states, especially to those where housing costs are relatively lower, climates are more temperate and job growth has been at or above the national average, among other factors,” said Michael Stoll, economist, professor and chair of the Department of Public Policy at the University of California Los Angeles.
United has tracked migration patterns annually on a state-by-state basis since 1977. For 2014, the study is based on household moves handled by United within the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C.
Culture of Thailand on display at restaurant
Sabaidee Thai and Sushi Bar will have Thai Night Jan.30 and 31.
People can come to the restaurant to experience the culture of Thailand. There will be dancing, cooking demos and fruit carvings both nights from 5:30 p.m to 9:30 p.m.
The restaurant is located at 2204 S. Main St. in Salisbury.
Poe named Realtor of the year
The Salisbury-Rowan Association of Realtors has named James Poe, with Wallace Realty, the Realtor of the Year for 2014.
The award recognizes those who have served not only the real estate profession but also their communities.

New hotel planned for Mooresville
A Charlotte developer is planning to build a hotel in Moorseville.
The Charlotte Observer reported that H.K. Patel plans to build a four-story, 96-room hotel off Interstate 77 Exit 33 on Medical Park Road. Mooresville commissioners approved the permit for the hotel Monday.
Patel’s CN Hotels Inc. is negotiating with three hotel chains for the project, and construction should start within six months and could last 1 1/2 years.
