Rowan weather: More cold, then a chance of rain
Published 7:46 am Friday, January 9, 2015
We got a reprieve from the deep cold last night and it’s already 29 degrees at 7:30 a.m. Clouds moved in overnight, and that prevented the temperatures from plummeting.
It’s not going to be a warm day, with the wind blowing, but the sun will be out. The windchill will be as low as 10 degrees. The high will be around 40, and the winds will blow from the west at 7-9 mph. Tonight, the prediction again is for the teens. We could see a drop to 15 degrees, with wind from the north northwest at 3-7 mph.
Saturday will be cold, too, with a high of 35 under sunny skies. The wind will be from the north around 6 mph, but will calm in the afternoon. Clear skies will lead to a low of 18 Saturday night.
Sunday brings a 20 percent chance of rain in the afternoon, with a high near 42 and calm winds. The chance of rain increases to 50 percent Sunday night, with a low around 33.
And that brings a 50 percent chance of rain to Monday, as well, with cloudy skies and a high near 46. The 50 percent chance of rain continues Monday night, with a low around 34.
Tuesday’s chance of rain is 40 percent, and we’ll have cloudy skies again and a high near 42. A 30 percent chance of rain Tuesday night, with a low around 33.
Wednesday won’t be much different, with a 40 percent chance of rain, clouds and a high near 45. Nighttime brings a 50 percent chance of rain back, with a low around 34.
Thursday’s weather changes little, back to a 40 percent chance of rain. This time, we’ll see partly sunny skies, with a high near 48.
Some forecasters predict a chance of snow Sunday night, with up to an inch of accumulation, which would quickly disappear on Monday. Another forecast mentions the possibility of freezing rain Thursday morning and only rain Sunday night and Monday.
Every day is somewhat a surprise, so be prepared.
