The  7th annual Carolinas-Georgia Junior Golf Championship was held at Mt.  Vintage Golf Plantation in North Augusta, S.C.

Twenty of the top golfers from N.C., S.C., and Georgia competed in the two-day event. Davis Richards (South Rowan), Walker Cress (Concord) and Logan Shuping (East Rowan) were part of the N.C. team, which won the event for the second year in a row.

Shuping led N.C. golfers with rounds of 76-70 — 146 and finished fourth overall.

Richards shot 79-75 — 154 to finish tied for 22nd.  Cress shot 80-80 — 160 to tie for 49th.

Prep swimming

The Rowan County Championships will be held at Hurley YMCA on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

• The CCC Championships will be held on Jan. 29.

Prep football

A.L. Brown defensive back Daveon Perry has verbally committed to Winston-Salem State.

Perry was outstanding as a kick returner, totalling 1,156 yards on punt and kickoff returns. He had four kickoff return TDs.

Perry also helped out the Wonders’ offense on occasion and had three rushing touchdowns and a receiving TD.

College hoops

Livingstone’s teams are at  home Wednesday for a CIAA doubleheader against  Fayetteville State.

The women’s game starts at 5:30 p.m.

CIAA Newcomer of the Week Doreen Richardson (Salisbury) is one of the standouts for the Fayetteville State women.

• Catawba’s teams are on the road at Wingate on Wednesday. The doubleheader starts at 6 p.m.

• Catawba swept SAC Player of the Week honors, with K.J. Arrington honored from the men’s team and Bri Johnson honored from the women’s team.

Arrington averaged 27 points per game for the week, while Johnson scored 20.5 per game.

• Former Concord star Jacquise Moore was named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week after leading Lees-McRae to three wins.

• Keshun Sherrill (West Rowan) scored 18 and hit two late 3-pointers to lift GRU Augusta to a 67-65 win at Young Harris on Monday.

•Pfeiffer’s men won 76-71 at Limestone on Monday.

A.J. Clark had a 22-point second half for the Falcons.

  

Youth track

Jalen Houston of the Hurley YMCA Warriors competed in the Tommie Invitational held in Hampton, Va.

Houston won the 55-meter dash in 7.11 seconds and placed second in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.37 and took fourth in the 200 meters in 25.41.

Houston will compete on Feb. 15 in the USATF South  Zone Championships in Landover, Md.

Jayvee hoops

Carson’s jayvee boys won 68-66 against East Rowan ton Tuesday to stay undefeated.

Owen White led the Cougars (13-0) with 16 points. Jailen Williams scored 14, Elijah Moss had 13, and Cameron Prugh added 11.

Isaac Baker and Franklin Downing scored 16 apiece  for East Rowan. Paiton File had 13, and Lucas Morton added nine.

• North  Rowan’s boys won 54-45 against East Davidson. Xavier Haley scored 25 for the Cavaliers, and  Andre Gray scored 11.

Jackson Gammons led East Davidson with 17.

8th-grade hoops

The basketball tournament at Erwin has two semifinal games scheduled for Wednesday.

4:30 p.m.  — Mooresville vs. Corriher-Lipe girls

6  p.m. — Mooresville vs. Knox boys

• In a Tuesday boys semifinal, North Rowan Middle won 44-24 against West Rowan Middle to return to the championship game.

  Brevin Goodlett led the Mavericks with 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals.  Dajawon Cook had eight points and seven rebounds. Cameron Gill had five steals.  Quintous Smith had 10 rebounds.

Robert Caldwell hit four  3-pointers to lead the Bulldogs with 12 points.

The top-seeded and unbeaten Mavericks will play the Knox-Mooresville winner on Thursday at 6 p.m.

• In a girls semifinal on Tuesday, West Rowan upset previously unbeaten Knox 30-26 to advance to Thursday’s title game.

  

Sacred Heart hoops

Sacred Heart’s varsity boys won 41-35  against Hickory Christian.

Jack Fisher had a triple-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Blaine Shellhorn scored seven points, while  Bill Fisher had six points and four blocks.

• Sacred Heart’s girls lost 41-28 to Hickory Christian despite 22 points by Mary Sobataka.

Prep hoops

North Rowan’s girls lost 65-37 at East Davidson on Tuesday.

Demeria Robinson led the Cavaliers (7-5, 2-1 CCC) with 11 points. Brianna White scored 10.

Robinson has 990 career points.

Madi Hallman scored 24 for the unbeaten Golden Eagles.

• Lexington’s boys romped 80-47 against West Davidson in CCC action on Tuesday.

JaKishe Page scored 22 for the Yellow Jackets. Nolan Benson added 15.

• A.L. Brown’s girls lost to MECKA leader Hopewell 41-40 on Tuesday.

Kyla Downs scored 14 for the Wonders, while Aitana Grant had 12.

A potential game-winning shot for the Wonders went in-and-out.

• Stacia Means scored 19  points to lead Hickory Ridge’s 55-43 SPC win against Cox Mill on Tuesday.

Christa Hill scored 16 for the Chargers.

• A.L. Brown’s boys won against Hopewell on Tuesday. Joekeem Neal had 19 points and five assists.

North Hills hoops

Destini Phifer scored 22 points to lead the North Hills middle school girls to a 44-5 win against Park Ridge.

Colby Edmonds and Carrie Morgan scored seven each.

• The North Hills middle school boys won 38-36 against Park Ridge.

Parker Moody scored 12 points for the Eagles. Matthew James scored nine, and Trey Carlton had eight.
