A Morning of Music at Pine Ridge

China Grove — Join Pine Ridge Baptist Church, 880 Old Linn Road, for a morning of music starting at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday with the McReas from Mt. Gilead.  Following the music there will be a meal in the fellowship building at noon. There will be no Sunday school.

Prayer rooms are at 5:45 p.m. followed by the evening worship service.

On Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. there will be a free meal served with a brief inspirational thought to follow.

Mt. Zion UCC

China Grove — At Mount Zion United Church of Christ, 1415 S. Main St., the Rev. Dr. Edward Davis will be the guest preacher during the 11 a.m. service Sunday. Dr. Davis is the Conference Minister of the Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ. Mt. Zion UCC is just one of over 200 local churches throughout North Carolina and Southeastern Virginia that makes up the Southern Conference.

Sarah Safrit will be sharing the children’s message, and all will be invited to place at least one dollar in the Souper Bowl of Caring soup pots placed around the sanctuary.

On Wednesday, Feb. 4 is Mt. Zion’sfirst Wednesday of the month dinner which includes barbecue pork, macaroni and cheese, pinto beans, creamed corn, slaw, homemade pickles, corn bread, biscuits, cobbler, tea and coffee, at $8 per person. Word of Life Family Worship Center

Word of Life Family Worship Center will have guest speakers from Victory Christian Center during the upcoming Sunday and Wednesday services. On Sunday at 10 a.m.  the guest speaker will be Minister Matthew Chapman. A native of Charlotte, he received a business administration degree from Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk. He is also a graduate of Jerry Savelle School of Bible and School of Ministry. He was licensed for ministry by Victory Christian Center, where he is a member.

On Wednesday at 7 p.m. Pastor Robyn Gool will be the guest speaker. In 1980, Pastor Gool began an independent ministry, Victory Christian Center, in Charlotte. He is a graduate of Oral Roberts University and is the author of seven books: “Proper Attitudes Toward Leadership,” “For Singles Only,” “Don’t Block the Blessings,”“From Pressure to Praise,”“Every Ministry Needs Help,” “What to Do When You’re Backed Against the Wall” and “How to Respond to a Doctor’s Diagnosis and Prognosis.”

Black history program

Black History program F.A.C.T. (Families And Communities Together), the Christian Education Departments and the Mentoring Ministries of Soldiers Memorial and Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Churches are jointly sponsoring a historical enactment of “From Slavery to the White House.”

The program will take place Monday. Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. in the Soldiers Memorial fellowship hall, depicting how the stories of African-Americans are woven into the fabric of our nation’s history. Individually and collectively their stories will reveal choices they had to make and their challenges and achievements retold through ancestral tales recounting sacrifices and commitments. This intergenerational program is intended to inspire listeners to their own research regarding the talents and contributions of African-Americans past, present and future.

The inspirational documentary “Lift Every Voice and Sing” will be shown and a surprise is planned to be the highlight of the program. Artifacts depicting the African-American heritage will be on display. Rosalyn Mitchell will serve as mistress of ceremonies.

Presiding elder the Rev. Dr. Grant Harrison Jr. and the Rev. Carolyn Bratton are pastors of Soldiers Memorial and Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Churches, respectively.

Providence AME Zion Church

Providence AME Zion Church, 2415 Providence Church Road, will present the film “God’s Not Dead” on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m.

“God’s  Not Dead” is a Christian drama filmed in 2014 that features Kevin Sorbo, Shane Harper, David A.R. White and Dean Cain. It is about an evangelical Christian college student (Harper) who finds his faith challenged by a philosophy professor who does not believes God exists.

Cedar Grove hosts Black history event for children and youth

Cleveland — Cedar Grove AME Zion Church will be sponsoring a Black History Workshop for children and youth up to 18 years of age. Practices will be Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. The concert will be Sunday, Feb. 8 at 4 p.m. Practices and concert will be held at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church. Movies at Kirkwood

KANNAPOLIS — Kirkwood Presbyterian Church will feature Christian movies on the first Saturday of each month beginning on Feb. 7 at 6 p.m., showing “Cowgirls and Angels.” On Saturday, March 7 see “Cowgirls and Angels II.” These movies will be free along with popcorn and coke.  Bring family and friends and enjoy a fun night out.  The church is located at 900 Klondale Ave.. St. Paul’s UCC 59th fundraiser meal

China Grove — In memory of the Rev. Phred Causey, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 811 N. Enochville Ave., will host the 59th chicken noodle dinner and bake sale next Saturday, Feb. 7 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Eat in or carry out. Next Saturday, Feb. 7 from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m., Project Cover Inc. (Community Outreach Vocational Educational Resource Center) will be feeding the community and offering a clothing giveaway until all resources are exhausted. The event will be held at 123 E. B Ave. Cash donations will benefit Project Cover pantry and programs.

 

Salisbury-Rowan Church Women United

The annual meeting of the SRCWU will be on Sunday, Feb. 8 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 500 Partee St. The featured speaker will be the Rev. Barrie Miller Kirby, pastor of Spencer Presbyterian Church.

Installation of officers will be done by state president-elect Jean Lowery and the Valiant Women Award will be presented to an outstanding church woman selected by committee. The Ecumenical Action project for this meeting will be collecting items to be donated to local nursing homes. Items donated should include socks, tissues, lotions, tooth paste, tooth brushes, chap sticks and personal care products. There will a time of fellowship and refreshment after the meeting.
