The Annual Meeting of the Historic Gold Hill and Mines Foundation, Inc. will be held on Monday, Feb. 2. The 7 p.m. meeting will be held at the Russell-Rufty Memorial Shelter in Gold Hill Mines Historic Park. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Historic Foundation president Jay Culp, will host the business meeting, introducing key members of the board who will offer reports and updates of the foundations projects over the last year. Rick Shulenburger, chairman of the Nominating Committee, will offer a slate of nominees for the expiring board seats.
Speaker will be Phil Bradley, Senior Piedmont Geologist for the North Carolina Geological Survey —Division of Energy, Mineral, and Land Resources, N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NC DENR). He is Staff Supervisor for the collection of geologic field data as part of geologic mapping activities and coordinates the production of geologic maps for the Piedmont of NC. He fields inquiries from citizens and other State agencies/Universities concerning the geology of the Piedmont of NC. His staff partnered with the University of NC Pembroke last year to conduct a GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar Survey) at Gold Hill Mines Historic Park. He will briefly discuss the results of the survey at the annual meeting on Monday evening.
A social hour will be held following the meeting with refreshments in the Veterans Room. We encourage those interested in history and geology of the area to attend. Reservations are not required. Renewing member dues can be paid on arrival the night of the meeting. Membership is not required to attend the meeting. The public is invited.
