The RadioShack in Salisbury — and more than 1,500 others around the country — is set to close.

The 94-year-old company filed for bankruptcy last week and will close 1,700 of its 4,000 locations across the country by March 31.

Business Insider reported the closures will come in three waves, Feb. 17, Feb. 28 and March 31. The Salisbury store is set to be part of the Feb. 28 closings, according to court documents from the company’s bankruptcy.

The RadioShack in Lexington is slated to close by March 31 — and dozens across the state are on the chopping block.

In a statement, RadioShack said it plans to sell up to 2,400 of its stores to General Wireless Inc., an affiliate of the hedge fund Standard General, and Sprint plans to lease space inside many of the remaining stores in order to sell its mobile plans and devices.

Last week, an employee at the Salisbury store, off East Innes Street near IHOP, told the Post he didn’t know if the store was going to close and had only heard “rumors.”

Reached Monday, an employee at the store referred all questions to RadioShack’s corporate offices — which had an automated message saying the company was receiving a large amount of inquiries.

The loss of RadioShack will leave Salisbury with Staples, a small Office Depot and Walmart as the major shopping options for electronics.

In case you’re wondering, it’s about a 30-minute drive to the Best Buy at Concord Mills, and it takes just under 40 minutes to get to the one in Mooresville.
