SPENCER — Rowan Diagnostic Clinic, a longtime Salisbury medical practice, will open its third office Wedneday with a location in Spencer.

Spencer Family Medicine, serving patients ages 2 and up, will open at 446 S. Salisbury Ave. in the Spencer Plaza. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday. A ribbon cutting will be held Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m.

The Spencer practice will be led by certified physician assistant Lauren D. Lyerly, in conjunction with Dr. Kishan R. Maramraj. Lyerly has a bachelor’s degree in math and a master’s degree in medical science from Wake Forest University. She is licensed with the N.C. Medical Board. Previously, she was employed by Lexington Family Physicians, MedChoice Urgent Care and Occupational Health, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and Lexington Internal Medicine.

Maramraj completed medical school, his internship and residency at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He is certified with the American Board of Family Medicine. He was previously employed as attending physician and partner at ExpressMed Medical Clinics, and also by Carolinas HealthCare Urgent Care, Statesville Urgent Care, Lake Norman Urgent Care, Primary Care Associations, Brian Clinic and LSU Family Medicine Residency. Both Lyerly and Maramraj are certified as N.C. Department of Transportation examiners.

Rowan Diagnostic is celebrating its 60th year of continuous medical service in Rowan County. It was started in 1955 by Dr. Roy Agner. Dr. Paul McCubbins began his practice in 1962 and Dr. Larry Gish joined in 1970. The practice became incorporated as Rowan Diagnostic Clinic, PA in 1971.

Today, with facilities in Salisbury at 611 Mocksville Ave. serving adults and children and in Cooleemee at 143 Marginal St. serving adults, Rowan Diagnostic is an independent, physician-owned, multi-specialty medical practice with 32 physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants on staff.

Specialties include endocrinology, gastroenterology, internal medicine, pulmonology and critical care, rheumatology, hospitalist services, internal medicine pre-anesthesia care and treatment, pre-operative services for patients undergoing surgery, and aerospace medicine including airmen medical examinations for both private and commercial pilots and high altitude testing for altitude sickness. The practice is also certified by the state to perform Department of Transportation physicals. It maintains the only office-based colonoscopy and upper endoscopy suite in Rowan County, and the suite is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
