OAK ISLAND (AP) — A North Carolina beach town has put a moratorium on building so-called mega-houses.
The Oak Island Town Council put a three-month ban on new homes larger than six bedrooms after hearing from town residents Thursday.
The council in the town about 30 miles southwest of Wilmington hopes to work out new regulations regarding the size of homes by the middle of April. Residents are concerned the giant homes will cause parking and safety problems and will affect the area’s quality of life.
The moratorium was sought after one property owner asked for permission to build a home with 15 bedrooms and 12 baths.
