Spiritual Voices celebrate 40 years

The Spiritual Voices of Salisbury will be celebrating their 40th anniversary this evening (march 7) at 6 p.m. at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2785 Dunn’s Mountain Road. The event is one night only, featuring in- and out-of-town groups. Host pastor is the Rev. Vincent Patrick Jones.

 

Love Ministries

On Saturday, March 7 Today at 10 a.m. Love Ministries is hosting a fundraiser prayer breakfast to be held at New Hope AME Zion Church, 1470 Long St., Spencer Extension. Requested donation is $10 and can be purchased in advance through  Patricia Hunt Wilson at 704-640-6283, or pay at the door.

The Love Ministries organization is run in a non-profit capacity by the Rev. Patricia Hunt Wilson for the purpose of raising money to provide food, clothing, school supplies and as much emergency aid as possible to those in need. Wilson started Love Ministries in 1981 to address the need she saw of young people going without clothing and school supplies. The ministry aslo visits nursing homes, collects clothing for giveaways and raises money for emergency services. Another ministry is to give out vegetable soup in quart jars to those in need.

Though the ministry as had its ups and down due to illness and staff overturn, Wilson is determined to keep it running. Love Ministry is non-donominational and anyone with love and compassion for other people are invited to join.

 

Guest speaker at Boxwood Baptist

Boxwood Missionary Baptist Church, address, will host guest speaker Minister James Miles of God’s Tabernacle for Believers of Rockwell. Miles will speak at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

 

Bluegrass & Blue Jeans Benefit for Sole Hope

MOUNT ULLA — The Bluegrass & Blue Jeans Benefit for Sole Hope will be held on Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. at Back Creek Presbyterian Church.

An evening of bluegrass music performed by the Back Creek Bluegrass Boys, plus a hot dog supper will support the Salisbury-based Sole Hope charity. Monetary donations are welcome, as well as old blue jeans which will be used to create shoes for children and adults in Uganda, Africa.

Sole Hope offers hope, healthier lives, and freedom from foot-related diseases through education, jobs, and medical relief.

First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury

On this third Sunday in Lent, First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury will be celebrating God’s call to mission in our community, nation, and the world. We will all worship together with one service at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.

As the TWAM (Teens With A Mission) group prepares for its summer Mission Trip 2015 to Costa Rica, they will host a lunch in Lewis Hall immediately following the 11 a.m. service. Join us for fried chicken and fixings. The meal is free but a free will offering will be collected to help build two houses in Costa Rica for families in need.

 

St. Luke Baptist Spring revival

St. Luke Baptist Church on Hawkinstown Road will be having its annual spring revival beginning March 11 and ending March 13. Services will begin at 7 p.m. nightly.

First United Methodist  of Salisbury Day of Caring

First United Methodist Church of Salisbury will host a “Day of Caring” on Sunday. Showcased will be the various caring ministries that the church provides. Special entertainment will be provided by John Brincefield, Matthew Michael Brown, Coleman Emerson and Debbie Hubbard-Pastore.

Lunch will be served from 11a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and will include a baked potato and salad bar with homemade desserts in the fellowship hall.

Donations will be accepted for lunch and will be used to care for member Carmen Shepler, who is battling leukemia.

 

Pine Ridge Baptist Church

CHINA GROVE — The Wednesday evening meals at Pine Ridge Baptist Church, 880 Old Linn Road, have been canceled. The Lord deserves more than an inspirational thought. Bible Study will be Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

 

Music & Meditation at St. John’s

Join area musicians for Music and Meditation. These Lenten services are set for 12:15-12:45 p.m. on Mondays, March 9, 16 and 23, in the Chapel of St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St.

These events will include a time of prayer and meditation, led by the Rev. Rhodes Woolly, senior pastor, and Danielle Kosanovich, pastoral intern. Special music will be provided by Michelle Trivette, saxophone, on March 9; John Stafford, piano, on March 16, and Rosemary Kinard, flute, and Rob Durocher, piano, on March 23.

Trivette is an elementary music teacher for Rowan-Salisbury Schools, Stafford is director of music ministries for First Presbyterian Church, Durocher is minister of music at St. John’s, and Kinard serves as associate parish musician.

 

Family & Friends Day at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion

CLEVELAND — Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 5890 South River Church Road, will observe Family & Friends Day, featuring the crowning of Mr. and  Mrs. Moore’s Chapel. The event is Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

Special guest speaker will be the Rev. Kinston Jones Sr. of Stephen AME Zion Church of High Point. Lunch will be served after the service.  Sponsored by the Sunday School and Christian Education departments. The Rev. William C. Speas is host pastor.

 

Harold to speak at New Hope AME Zion Twelve Tribes Rally

New Hope AME Zion Church is hosting its annual Twelve Tribes Rally on Sunday March 8 at 3 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Debra J. Hall is pastor.

Thelma C. Harold, a native of Hickory, is the featured guest that will introduce the tribes. Harold, a Christian comedian, is also a writer and motivational speaker touching lives abroad through her inspirational plays, music and speeches.

She is currently employed by Unifour Family Practice as front desk receptionist; The Hickory Foundation YMCA/C.O. Miller Teen Center as teen program director for a nationwide organization called the Black Achievers, and members service coordinator, which entails advocating for both members and staff while retaining memberships.

Mrs. Harold is a widow, mother of three daughters and the grandmother of eleven grandchildren.

 

Lenten services at Mt. Moriah Lutheran

CHINA GROVE — Mt. Moriah Lutheran, 750 Mt. Moriah Church Road, will host informal  Lenten services on Wednesday evenings. Ambassador Christian lay appreciation service

There will be a lay leadership appreciation service Sunday,  March 8, 2015, at 4 p.m. at the Ambassador Christian Church, 726 Lincolnton Road.

The purpose of the service is to recognize the lay leaders of the church for their service to the church and community over the past year. Pastor Donnie Witherspoon will be the speaker and there will be a special musical presentation.

 

Lilly’s Chapel Church of God Women’s Day

Lilly’s Chapel Church of God, 618 W. Thomas St., will observe Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8, at 3 p.m. The speaker is the Rev. Dr. Beverly Rose, pastor of Mount Zion CME Church of Salisbury.

 

Ordination and installation of Jason William Huebner

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 West Innes St., will host a service of Ordination for Jason W. Huebner next Saturday, March 13, at 6 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Leonard H. Bolick, bishop of the NC Synod, ELCA, will preside over the service. Rev. Harvey L. Huntley Jr. will proclaim the gospel. Rev. Huebner will be installed at St. James in Rockwell the following day.

ROCKWELL – St. James Lutheran Church, 131 N. Main St., will mark the installation of the Rev. Jason W. Huebner on Sunday, March 15 at the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

Rev. Huebner came to St. James following 15 years in youth and family ministry. He served at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL, St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elgin, IL, Gurnee Community Church in Gurnee, IL, and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury, NC. He was a vicar at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem, NC and Shiloh Lutheran Church in Lewisville, NC. He received his BA in Education at Concordia University in Chicago, IL. He received a master of divinity from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC.

Communion will be part of the ordination and installation services. Receptions will follow.

Watoto Children’s Choir to perform at Outreach Christian Ministries

Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda Africa, will be in concert at Outreach Christian Ministries , 722 W. Horah St. on Friday, March 13 at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to public.

Accompanied by a team of adults, the choir presents Watoto’s vision and mission through their stories, music and dance. Watoto choirs act as ambassadors to raise awareness about the plight of the orphaned and vulnerable children of Africa.

Each of the children in the choir has suffered the loss of one or both parents. They live in Watoto Children’s Villages where they receive the care and nurture they need to grow up as productive citizens of their own country.

Bolton book Signing

Carrie Bolton, former professor of Livingstone College and retired pastor, has self-published a small book of vignettes on her experiences working with others. This book, dedicated to the late Mattie T. Lakin, is interlaced with brief words of wisdom about what it means to serve and grow in ministry.
