The Rowan History Club will meet this Tuesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. The program will be presented by Dr. Tom Hanchett on “The Newest New South.”

Hanchett visits from Charlotte’s Levine Museum of the New South. He’ll speak about “The Newest New South” – looking back at the roots of the New South idea in the years after the Civil War, then exploring this region’s most recent reinventions as it becomes a magnet for newcomers from across the U.S. and around the globe.

Hanchett joined Levine Museum of the New South in uptown Charlotte in 1999 as staff historian.  He’s helped curate three national-award-winning exhibitions and hosted hundreds of events and programs.  He writes widely on Southern history and culture, including a regular column in the Charlotte Observer on culinary traditions old and new: Food From Home.  www.historysouth.org  www.muserumofthenewsouth.org

The meeting will be held in the Messinger Room (accessible by elevator). Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, September-June. The museum is located at 202 N. Main St. Guests to the program should enter through the rear entrance.

A roundtable format will allow for a 30- to 45-minute presentation, followed by a question and answer period. The Rowan History Club is open to all people interested in the history of Rowan County. There are no dues or admission fees, and refreshments are served.
