April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the Rowan County Department of Social Services and Prevent Child Abuse Rowan will host an event 4 p.m.-6 p.m. April 15 to raise awareness for the prevention of child abuse.
“April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children,” said Beth Moore, executive director for Prevent Child Abuse Rowan, which advocates for the protection of children in Rowan through training and education, coordinating responses to abuse and neglect and reducing victim trauma.
The event will be held at City Park in Salisbury.
“Everyone’s participation is critical,” said Rebecca Smith, child welfare program administrator for the Department of Social Services. “Focusing on ways to build and promote the protective factors, in every interaction with children and families, is the best thing our community can do to prevent child maltreatment and promote optimal child development.”
