Dr. Valerie B Cruse, a minister and motivational speaker who lives in Pfafftown, has written a book, “Waiting, Dating, or Mating,” published by Tate Publishing.
She will talk about and sign her book at Literary Bookpost, 110 S. Main St., March 28, 1-3 p.m.
Every young lady dreams of meeting the man of her dreams, falling in love, having a storybook wedding, and living happily ever after.
In reality, that dream oftentimes becomes a nightmare. In “Waiting, Dating, or Mating,” Cruse walks readers through the pitfalls of dating — the games, the deceit and the manipulation — that is so prevalent in relationships today.
Cruse has taken the Word of God and has come out of these situations, and encourages others to walk in consecration instead of desperation and hopes to inspire women not to settle for less than God’s best for you.
New guide for hikers
There’s a new guidebook about South Carolina’s Foothills Trail, which begins at Oconee State Park and ends at Table Rock State Park.
“The Foothills Trail crosses five rivers and passes by numerous spectacular waterfalls. It has many access points and almost endless possibilities for backcountry day hikes and overnights,” says Scott Lynch, an outfitter and hike leader who wrote the book, “Hiking South Carolina’s Foothills Trail.”
“My goal is to offer concise, reliable information about the trail that lets hikers have the best experience possible,” Lynch says. The 76.2-mile Foothills National Recreation Trail begins and ends in South Carolina, but along the way it crosses through two of North Carolina’s mountain counties, passing through the temperate rainforest of Laurel Valley and reaching South Carolina’s highest point on Sassafras Mountain.
Along with detailed information for through-hikers, the new guide also lists the top 10 day hikes and top 10 overnight hikes. Lynch includes information on campsites, water sources, and trail highlights along the way. Maps and driving directions to all 10 trailheads are included. A slim pocket guide format helps keep packs small and light.
Hikes in the new guide are also a part of Milestone Press’s Great Hikes mobile app for iPhone and Android. The app includes more than 300 hiking routes in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, all adapted from popular print guidebooks.
Hiking South Carolina’s Foothills Trail will be available beginning April 1 wherever good books are sold, and may be ordered directly from the publisher at 828-488-6601 or online at www.milestonepress.com.
