CHINA GROVE — In a meeting that lasted fewer than six minutes, the town board honored a South Rowan High School student and announced upcoming events.
The meeting was the first since China Grove town board reverted back to its original meeting time. In the previous several months, the board changed its meeting time three times to fit the schedule of councilmen and try to attract more public attendance.
Within a single minute, the town board said the pledge of allegiance, approved minutes from two February meetings and a budget ordinance amendment, which stated a $61,000 increase in ad-valorem taxes and a $61,000 increase in tax incentives.
Next, the board publicly congratulated Logan Durham, a student and wrestler at South Rowan High School. Durham won his second Class 3A state championship this year in his weight class. He is South Rowan’s first ever two-time state champion and is undefeated during his previous two wrestling seasons.
With no old or new business on the agenda, Mayor Don Bringle made a few announcements before the board adjourned. Among the things Bringle mentioned was that the town will have a public budget workshop at town hall on Monday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m.
After the meeting, Town Manager Ken Deal said the workshop would include department heads presenting requests for the 2015-2016 fiscal year.
