KANNAPOLIS — Ten runs in the first four innings propelled the Drive past Intimidators on Wednesday. Greenville coasted the rest of the way to an 11-6 victory at CMC NorthEast Stadium.
Kannapolis starting pitcher Spencer Adams logged just 1-2-/3 innings on the mound before getting pulled because of Greenville’s offensive outburst. Adams was handed the loss after he allowed six total runs —only one earned — on four hits with only two strikeouts.
The Intimidators were ahead 3-1 after the first inning on Christian Stringer’s run-scoring double and an infield single off the bat of Mason Robbins.
Greenville’s Javier Guerrera hit a game-tying, two-run home run in the top of the second inning. An error by Kannapolis’ Ethan Gross in the same inning allowed the Drive to score the go-ahead run for a 4-3 lead.
Jordan Procyshen smacked a two-run double with Kannapolis reliever Brett Bruening on the mound for a 6-3 lead at the end of the second.
Chris Curley blasted his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the third inning. His solo shot cut the Intimidators’ deficit to 6-4. They didn’t get any closer to the Drive the rest of the game.
Bruening gave up four runs in the fourth.
Drive starting pitcher Jalen Beeks earned his first win of the season. He allowed four runs in five innings on the mound.
Michael Suiteer’s 3-for-5 night at the plate led Kannapolis and pushed his average to .302. Louie Lechich, Eddy Alvarez, and Stringer pitched in with multi-hit nights.
Wednesday’s game was the first time this season the Intimidators (8-11) allowed double-digit runs. The last time was Aug. 22, 2014, at West Virginia.
