Area Sports Briefs: North boys are CCC track champs

In Tuesday’s CCC Track Championships, North Rowan’s boys won with 141 points.
Next were Salisbury (108), West Davidson (84), East Davidson (79), Thomasville (77) and Lexington (34).
North Rowan got wins from Shane Parker in the discus and shot put. Phennessy Burts won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
Michael Streater won the 200 and the high jump.
Felix Quiroz won the pole vault.
The Cavaliers won the 4×100.
Winning for Salisbury were Thurston Alexander in the 800 and Matt Washko in the 1600.
The Hornets also won the 4×800.
• East Davidson (133 points) won the girls meet. The Golden Eagles were followed by North Rowan (97), West Davidson (85), Thomasville (66), Salisbury (60) and Lexington (39).
Brianna White led the Cavaliers by winning the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump. Payton Russell won the 400, and the Cavaliers won the 4×400.
Salisbury’s Jaleesa Smoot won the 100 and 200, while Breya Philpot won the triple jump.

Prep baseball
Salisbury defeated North Hills 13-2 at Robertson Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Salisbury (16-6) scored 12 runs in the first two innings to put the game away.
Riley Myers, Alex Link, and Chandler Lippard had two hits each. Myers drove in three runs.
Zack Bates (2-1) was the winning pitcher.
Colin Turner had two hits for the Eagles.
• The Greater Cabarrus Stallions have advanced to the Elite Eight of the Homeschool World Series being held in Auburndale, Fla.
The Stallions (22-5) won 11-6 against St. Louis.
Caleb Threadgill had three hits and five RBIs and hit a grand slam. Tyler Hartsell had three hits and four RBIs. Noah Jarrett, Drake Boger, Hunter Shephard had two hits. McConner Wallace doubled and was the winning pitcher.
The Stallions will play Dallas, the defending national champs, on Thursday.
Prep soccer
Goals by Kate Sullivan and Wesleigh Harrington gave Gray Stone a 2-1 win against Union Academy.
Prep softball
Davie beat Reagan 10-5 on Wednesday for the War Eagles’ eighth straight win.
College baseball
Catawba is still ranked first in the Southeast Region, but that vote was taken before the Indians lost twice on Monday.
Local golf
In the eGolf Tour’s Forest Oaks Classic, Salisbury’s Frank Adams III shot 34-33 — 67 in the first round. Adams is 5 under and is tied for seventh.
College golf
Livingstone’s CIAA champions will play at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, in the D-II Regionals on May 4-6.
Teams from the Atlantic and East regions will be competing.
SAC Echols Award
Wingate won the Echols Award for overall athletic excellence in the SAC for the ninth straight year.
Lenoir-Rhyne placed second. Catawba was 10th.

Abby Norris of East Bladen and Connor Hough of Pamlico High School have been named the recipients of the 10th annual Clary Medals awarded by the NCHSAA.
Student-athletes who play at least two sports, maintain at least a 3.2 GPA, and contribute in school activities and community service are eligible.
Mid. school tennis
Knox defeated Southeast. Winners in singles for Knox were Roarke Burton, Luke Grenoble, Jander Rodas, and Ian Walworth.
Winning in doubles was the team of Burton-Grenoble.
