The Rowan History Club will meet at 7 tonight, and the program will be presented by Tom Phlegar on the Carolina Backcountry Revolution.
The meeting will be held in the Messinger Room (accessible by elevator) at the Rowan Museum, 202 N. Main St. Guests should use the rear entrance.
History Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, September-June. The Rowan History Club is open to all people interested in the history of Rowan County. There are no fees, admissions or dues, and refreshments are served.
Phlegar’s presentation covers events in the Carolina Backcountry from early 1780 to the surrender of the British at Yorktown. With more battles occurring within 100 miles of Charlotte than all the rest of the 13 colonies combined over the entire eight-year period of the war, much is available to be examined.
Phlegar will look at the Battle of Charlotte, Ramseur’s Mill, Buford, S.C., Kings Mountain, Cowpens, Guilford Courthouse, Waxhall and others, all of which are not very far from Salisbury.
Included in the presentation are pictures of the areas discussed and how they look today.
Phlegar is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and is a retired colonel of the U.S. Army Reserves.
A roundtable format will allow for a 30- to 45-minute presentation, followed by a question-and-answer period.
