KANNAPOLIS – Seventy-four teams completed the rigorous Kansas City Barbeque Society event Jiggy with the Piggy over the weekend.

The teams are scored on the taste, appearance and tenderness of their brisket, pork, ribs and chicken. More than 15,000 people attended the two-day event that featured music concerts, arts and crafts, a 5K and family fun.

The Checkered Pig team was named the Grand Champion of the event. They are repeat champions as they won Jiggy with the Piggy last year. The Reserve Champion is Redneck Scientific.

The rest of the top 10 include third, Prime; fourth, Palmetto Pitmasters; fifth,  Smoke in the Mountains; sixth, Big Show BBQ Cookin Team; seventh, Sauced! BBQ Team; eighth, Smokin Skullies; ninth, Contagious Q; tenth, Big Dog BBQ VA.

 Other competitive events of the festival included the People’s Choice Wing Contest and the People’s Choice Pork Contest.

People’s Choice Wing Contest winners — First place, Hogzilla NC BBQ;
Tie for second, Two Men and a Pig, Team Holy Smokes and Dizzy Pig.

People’s Choice Pork Contest — First place, Flaming Pig No. 18; second place, Bobo’s Que No. 1; third, Fat Heads BBQ No. 3.

Dessert Competition — First place, Team Holy Smokes; second, Cammo’s BBQ; third, Muttley Crew

Jiggy 5K Winners — The overall female winner was Nicole Morgan and the overall male winner was Brandon Munoz.
