WADESBORO (AP) — Authorities have found two bodies in an old funeral home in Wadesboro.
Police found the bodies Wednesday after the former owner of the home told authorities where one of the bodies was.
The former owner of McLendon Funeral Home, Mary McLendon, was convicted Wednesday of obtaining property by false pretenses. Investigators said she failed to take a body to a crematorium after taking money from family members.
McLendon was sentenced to between six months and 17 months in prison.
Police found a second body in the old funeral home when they went to investigate the body McLendon told them about.
Authorities are working to identify the remains.
The funeral home has been closed since 2012 after officials received complaints that McLendon was accepting payments for service that was not performed.
