On this weekend’s episode of “Carl White’s Life in the Carolinas,” the spotlight is on the American Legion World Series, hosted by Shelby and Cleveland County.

The special can been seen at 11 a.m. Sunday on WJZY My Fox 46, with a replay at midnight. It also will air at 6 p.m. Sunday on WMYT My 12.

Popular in Rowan County, American Legion baseball is a national institution founded in 1925 that has through the years taught hundreds of thousands of young Americans traditional values and the importance of sportsmanship, good health and active citizenship and community service.

For many, it has been the springboard to playing professional baseball.

Carl White and his crew spent six days on location during the 2014 American Legion World Series events and activities. White aimed at creating a special focusing on the details and people involved in producing an event that now garners national attention.

The American Legion Special is full of patriotism and pride in America. It will showcase the volunteers, honored special guests and conversations with the ball players themselves.

“One thing is for sure,” White said, “the logistics of producing the American Legion World Series are extreme and the people of Shelby, the surrounding region of North Carolina and the nation have reason to be proud of the execution and its outcome.”
